Crazy Games

Just when I thought we were going to have a tournament dominated by the Top 4 Seeds in each bracket, Belmont takes Duke to the wire and then San Diego upsets UConn. I don’t know how it happened but when we went to overtime, I thought UConn had the advantage with USD’s biggest man out and their tallest player at 6′5″… but who knew they could pull it out! Craziness!

Madness 2008 - From the Road

March 12, 2008

This has been one hectic March due to the fact that I am going to be traveling starting tomorrow and on the road both playing and working for the rest of the month. For those that haven’t seen the travel rig click here to find out more and for those that have, you’ll appreciate that he’s fully equipped with satellite internet service for remote March Madness viewing and updating reports on current standings!

Since this is the 15th year of this pool, I decided to dig up the history files and post a short history with past results on the home page of the site. A little nostalgia is always fun and for those who’ve only recently joined, perhaps knowing a little more history can add to your enjoyment! It’s hard to believe its been 15 years.. wow! Many thanks to all who have played and many more thanks to all those who’ve helped me make it possible. It’s a ton of fun for me as well, so I am truly grateful!

Selection Sunday is only 4 days away.. I hope you are ready! See you Sunday!

Crazy Summer

July 7, 2007

For the last week, I have been lost and trying to catch up. Now it’s the 7th of July and it’s been an entire 2 weeks since the Cache Game bike race when the whirlwind started! This crazy summer is underway! Let’s recap! First, the interns arrived on 6/25 and we had a week of training and getting the Conversion Van (Ron Burgundy) ready for departure. Then the weekend came and we did the annual Vertical Media Camping Trip. Then 4th of July and WYDAHO Mountain Bike Race at Grand Targhee, where I placed 2nd for my first ever Top 5 finish! After watching the race and diner at the Knotty Pine, we finished off with views of the fireworks from BJ’s house. Then it was off to work at Teton Valley Cabins. Our hosts at the cabins had a tragedy over the weekend as Ray Walker passed away in his sleep late Fri. night / early Sat. morning. Lisa Ridenour, our manager was planning to attend a wedding in Sun Valley this week, so she trained me on running the cabins on Thursday. I’ve got good help and with a little love and luck, we’ll get by! We put the interns on the road on their own with Ron on Thu. heading to Island Park and Riverside. Not 2 hours into their trip, I get the call that the van broke down. After calling AAA, and waiting about 3 hours, they finally got it started and continued their journey. The last 2 days at the cabins have been an extremely educational, rewarding and believe it or not relaxing break! Things are going smoothly, and we are getting some incredible sunsets and thunderstorms, which are bringing much needed rain and hopefully no new fires! I feel out of touch with Jackson, but will head home tomorrow, work through a busy week then off to the Teton Crest Trail for 4 days next weekend!!

Ski Days Goal!

April 17, 2007

skidays, originally uploaded by skibradshaw.

I’ve been logging ski days for the past 5 seasons with a goal of 60 days per year! Things fell off when I blew my ACL in 2004, but despite the lack of snow this year, I made it back!! Time to get the bike out of storage :-D!

The Power of Green

As a conservative, business-oriented person, I’ve never considered myself a ‘treehugging environmentalist’. I’ve also always been one to buck the trend and be an early adopter. Lately, however, with some strong influence from co-workers, partners and friends, I’ve been jumping on the green band-wagon. It’s become trendy, there is no doubt, but this is a trend I can go with. At Vertical Media, I’ve been a HUGE proponent of paperless business operations. We’ve also spent this year putting other practices in place. But one business isn’t going to make a big difference. We need everyone on board. We are now going to use the leverage of our travel-planning web sites and 5 Million travel visitors to influence the travel-habits of visitors to the northern Rocky Mountains. We are doing this by providing Sustainable Travel recommendations on our sites. That has leverage!

What got me writing about this is an article I read in the NY Times this morning about how America can change. The article proposes changing America’s image from a world powerhouse to a world leader in Sustainability. In other words, no longer dominating other countries, but instead setting the example and pioneering ways to save and protect our earth. The article is worth reading and shows how this is more than just a trend, it should become a lifestyle or there won’t be much human life left!

One last night - at the ‘Winders!

April 2, 2007

This is always a tough time of year… Saying ’so long’ to basketball season, ski season and hello to rain and mud - never fun! But one last chance to enjoy what will hopefully be an exciting game at Sidewinders! Anyone in town is welcome to join. We’ll see if we can get BJ Hansen over and cheering for OSU! Thanks to everyone who played this year. It was an exciting and enjoyable tournament. If you haven’t had a chance to check out my main web site, please do! I plan to use it to post stock research, real estate investment ideas and opportunities, photos and general life experiences. Have a great summer and we will see everyone next year!
